Best Practise – Best example of application of principle. (e.g. best practise in recycling of IT).

Cost-Benefit Analysis – Assessment of the cost of an enterprise against its potential benefit.

Digital Divide – Percentile measurement of the difference in access levels to IT equipment within different social and geographic sectors.

Disposal - In this context, the management of waste involving its destruction or burial, as in landfilling or incineration.

Eco-Economy – That sector of the economy represented by enterprises developing environmental activities.

Eco-Label – A label used to identify products that satisfies a certain environmental standard (e.g. European Eco-Label) 

Hazardous Waste – Waste that contains materials that are harmful to persons, animals or the environment.

IT (Information Technology ) – Technology involving the use of computers, telecommunications, for electronically processing, storing, retrieving and sending information.

Long-Term Unemployed – Definition used by FáS (Irish National Training Agency) to mean that group of persons who have been on the "live register" (unemployed) for three years of more and are over 35 years of age

ROHS Directive – European Commission Directive which aims to regulate the handling of hazardous materials (see Hazardous Materials above)

Recycling – in this context, the breaking down of IT equipment and its parts into component materials, for reprocessing and new manufacture, as different from disposal or reuse.

Reuse – the repair and reuse of IT equipment and parts without breaking down into component materials (recycling).

Social Economy Enterprise – A (usually non-profit) enterprise, that has social, environmental or cultural objectives, but operates within the market and derives income from the market.

Social Exclusion – A social condition characterised by pervasive exclusion from social and civil rights, usually triggered by an initial lack of access to basic supports, such as education, employment or housing, but which tends to become total and endemic.

Statutory Responsibility – Responsibility defined by statute, usually given to a local or national body (e.g. local authority statutory responsibility for waste)

Sustainable Development – Development carried out in a sustainable manner, that is, without compromising the ability of future generation to continue to meet that need.

WEEE Directive – The Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment Directive issued by the European Commission to regulate the management of such waste.

XCP Model – Multimedia Computer Systems' (MicroPro) current model of a recyclable computer.

ZWCP Model (Zero Waste Personal Computer) – Proposed model Personal Computer to be developed by MicroPro as part of Project HEATSUN, which is 100% recyclable.
